Your Pet’s Ticket Home
Every year, millions of pets go missing — and many never make it back. Collars and tags can fall off or become unreadable. At Finn Hill Animal Hospital, we recommend microchipping as a simple, permanent form of identification. It gives you the best chance of being reunited with your pet if they ever get lost.
Small Chip, Big Peace of Mind
A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted just beneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and feels similar to a routine vaccination. It can be done during a regular wellness visit or as part of a routine surgical procedure.
Once implanted, the microchip stores a unique identification number linked to your contact information in a national pet recovery database. Veterinary hospitals, shelters, and animal control facilities across the country are equipped with scanners that can read this number, making it possible to identify your pet and contact you right away. Unlike a collar or tag, a microchip can’t fall off, wear out, or be removed — it’s a one-time procedure that provides lifetime protection.
One important reminder: a microchip is only as useful as the information attached to it. If you move or change your phone number, update your records in the chip’s registration database so your pet can always find their way back to you.
